The First Story:

The First Story, 2002, is a twelve-minute experimental documentary exploring images of power in the postindustrial age.  Grainy, color and black and white, super 8 images of freight trains and semi trucks in the American western landscape are juxtaposed with sequences that explore Western lifestyle. The film interrogates the effect of these powerful man-made transport systems on life-forms other than human beings–horses, cattle, sheep,  and grasses. The sound design for The First Story is created primarily from the sources seen in the film. The industrial sounds of freight trains and trucks are used to make rhythms that unify the film, and form the structural backbone of the twelve-minute visual study.
